been using windows movie maker to cut and edit vids and using youtube editor to slap on the audio. But i do want to get better and learn how to sync audio as there is a slight delay when i try and do post commentaries.Any tips or books for dummies would help immensely

Man haha I've been using movie maker for years, but I understand. There's amazing editing programs out there such as premiere, avid, final cut, some people use imovie. My best tip is when syncing commentary. I film my vid but than I record a commentary through windows movie maker at the same time. I put a picture as a place holder than replace it later with the footage. Just take it frame by frame. Play back the commentary and actually raw footage audio until they are a match! (:

I would suggest LightWorks, there are dozens of tutorials and it is very new user friendly. I use it for editing on our videos and it hasn't failed yet.
Audio syncing when doing gameplay is easy. Just say "1 2 3" in to your mic while moving in the menu at the same time. Just match the sound with the movement then you are synced!

YouTube is where I learn most of my editing stuff... That and experimenting

I'd say it's a mixture between using the Internet to answer your hardest questions (because the internet is a beautiful, sometimes helpful place); and just messing around with your software until it works :)

I would suggest going to a different software and just start experimenting with it. Personally I would suggest VideoPad as it's free, offers everything you would get from Adobe, and doesn't restrict the number of overlays that can be used. As far as I've seen it's the best free option out there. As for the audio, I would suggest doing the classic "1, 2, 3 *clap*" method and simply sync the audio from your camera and mic through your software (not youtube editor.) Jacksepticeye actually explained it perfectly in his setup video if you want a visual :) Good luck and happy editing!

First of all, if you're on a PC, I'd start with sony vegas, it's pretty much the standard that PC users user for videos. Like everyone's said, Youtube is actually the best place to learn anything you could possibly ever need to know about editing across different platforms/softwares. :)
