Where do you get your views from?

Most of my views come from YouTube searches and suggested videos, which I'm thinking has to do with the fact that I mainly make programming tutorial videos. At some point, I wouldn't mind improving my social media presence, but currently only ~10 percent of my views come from external sources.

The first couple hours from subscribers, then we cross our fingers and hope the YouTube algorithm favors us with "Suggested video" status for a few more hours/days

For me it breaks down like this for the top 4 Traffic Sources:

YouTube search (45%)
Suggested videos (31%)
Browse features (11%)
External (6.8%, breakdown below)
  • Google Search (39%)
  • Unknown (28%)
  • kinja.com (5.4%)
  • Reddit (9.0%)
It seems most of my channel is organic views within YouTube. Whatever else I do doesn't really do much.

I get most of my views from Reddit, like you. Twitter is an excellent source as well, but you must obtain a following. Be active on Twitter and link it to your YouTube account to automatically post your videos. Once people start retweeting your posts, you will gain momentum quickly.
Do you have any tips for promoting on reddit? I find the website extremly difficult to promote content on as most places don't allow self promoting.

Suggested is my biggest traffic source, then it's browse features and search.

My top external traffic source is reddit

Reddit is tough lol. My stuff gets downvoted quick. Im trying to stay YT close. Getting noticed is tough there also haha.

I don't even know how to use reddit but I would love to figure out how to get views from there, I think I'm using twitter correctly but not sure? I just post a bunch of random stuff about making videos and other peoples videos and use hashtags and tag people in my post hoping to get traction. I'm just trying to figure out how to draw people into my channel to begin with!!
