Hey everyone!! Whens the best time to start making merchandise? Such as shirts, jackets, phone cases, etc. Does it matter? Or should people wait until they have a large fan base?

Xoxo

Honestly you should wait until you have a big and really supportive fanbase otherwise you'll come across as a money-hungry person and people really, really don't like that. :)

Yeah thats what i was thinking too!! I cant wait until i can start selling merch;) haha

Moved this to Branding and Channel Design.

And I'd say wait until you have at least 5-10k subscribers.

Or a 'big fanbase' to fit in with the vagueness of this thread.

I made shirts that have made me money way faster than videos and they have nothing to do with my channel really besides having my breeds of dogs on them. This is my first successful shirt and I paid $0 to advertise it, I just posted to a couple of Facebook forums I belong to. It would help a lot if you have a huge following, but you don't HAVE to have one. I have less than 500 subs and I'm sure not a single sub bought a shirt. You just have to be creative with the designs & sayings and most importantly the marketing of your merch. The below shirt is an example of word play... a GSP is a German Shorthaired Pointer which are hunting dogs that point at birds.... So I came up with that saying and boom, 112 sales!

You should totally wait until you get a good, big enough fanbase.
My best friend and I made merch for our mini series because people asked for it, and only one shirt was bought.
I. . . bought that one shirt.
