When to Monetize?

If it was someone I didn't know I was honestly less willing to stick around if the video gets stopped, obviously 5 seconds isn't bad but 30 is a little long to wait for a channel I don't know. if someone I already know has made a video on whatever I'm searching then obviously I'll wait because I know what I'm getting with them, but for other people I was just less likely to wait, although I did depend on the content and I don't do it now anyway. you gotta remember though younger people are generally more impatient, as was I.

YouTube - "Ads may appear next to your uploaded videos even if you haven’t monetized the videos yourself."
So what's really the point in turning it off?

This. I've been monetized since 200 subs or so. People are used to the ads, so why not? Plus, it will take forever to get to the AdSense payout threshold... might as well start now.

Wouldn't agree fully. I've been getting some bits of revenue despite the fact that some people do use Adblock. I believe it's fine to still monetize at a lower sub count as you might as well rack up for the threshold.

When I said people are used to the ads, I didn't mean that everyone uses adblock. I meant that most youtube videos have ads anyway, so it shouldn't be super jarring to viewers if a small channel also had ads.

Edit: Whoops, just realized your reply was not for me. :roflmao2:

I'd say the majority of computer users do but when it comes to Mobile/Tablet I don't believe ad-block is available. I think YouTube Red is ad-free though.
