When someone gives you a review....

SAY THANK YOU AND IMPROVE! :stomp: I'm still annoyed by something that happened a while ago, so I just had to make a thread about it.

The other day I had seen someone ask for a review and after receiving the review, got VERY defensive and rude and acted as if this person was personally attacking them. NO. STOP. This person took the time out of their day to do something nice for you and help out by giving their unbiased opinion and writing a long and detailed review when they DIDN'T HAVE TO.

I understand how it can feel personal when someone is judging something that you worked hard on and were probably pleased with. It's happened to me a lot. I get it, but no one grows from tons and tons of complements and people sugar coating things. No matter if you have 1 to 12M subs there is ALWAYS something to learn. ALWAYS something to work on. AND HUMBLE YOURSELF FOR GOODNESS SAKES. We are ALL small fish in the GIANT pond that is YouTube.

I have so much more to say, but this is getting really long already. It was just really bugging me and I had to get it off my chest. :thumbsup2:

I asked for reviews on reddit a few times, and instead of reviewing what I asked for, they went and trashed a bunch of aspects of the channel I didn't ask about and had said I was changing (or I said a general statement, like "I know what to work on over there, but how's this thing going?). They were just picking me apart in places I told them I was working on already and ignored what I asked for. So I stopped giving feedback or asking for it there.

That's fair and understandable. There is a difference between criticism and trashing someone, though. I'm talking about honest criticism. I hear reddit is tough. :(

Oh I know. People getting defensive shouldn't if that's what they're asking for. It's someone's perception of what they're doing, so it's an outside view and it should be seen as helpful.

Reddit in general can be kind of cancerous. Just have to tread lightly. I don't post things there unless I'm just participating in NewTubers threads.

I think as the time goes people will give you honest feedback which you should listen. You will receive it in the comments. Of course, here and there, there will be always few hate comments but you can just neglect these and continue. For me, few subscribers helped me a lot with advice which I listened and now my videos are on a much higher level than before.

In the end not all videos are equal. Along with that people are genuinely bad and bad enough they can’t realize it don’t like being told so.

Very true it is hard to take it without going defensive so I see why some people can't. I'm a lot better now but there's one time that I did almost involuntarily get defensive and I still feel bad about it even though it was years ago.

Yeah though constructive criticism is definitely great to get and is beneficial even though it can be hard to take in sometimes.
