We make prank videos and I was wondering when am I legally required to blur out people faces?

Also, do we have to ask permission to use them in the video if we are not earning any money from it?

You should ask the people involved if they mind having their faces in your video. If they mind, then you should blur them out.

I think you can film anyone in public without a permission. But don't take legal advise from me

As Reina said just ask them if you can put them in your video. Most will say yes anyway, unless of course you have the money to seek legal counsel for advise..

Public filming laws actually vary from state to state, and most of the time a release form is sufficient (you can find one online for free). But even a lot of the big prank channels don't even use release forms. They just either ask if it's ok with the person to post the video online, or post it online anyway and hope no one complains. If you don't have a release form, then someone could discover the video and force YouTube to take it down.

I think you only need permission if the people are under 18 but I'm not sure because people could complain.
