When Adblock takes over

That happens because, when you already have a huge company established as the default solution for a certain need, it´s very difficult for another company to come in and just take over.
Oh. A huge company established as the default solution...like Myspace.

We'll see what happens.

EDIT: Adblock...something...Google paying to be whitelisted...something...relevance. There we go.[DOUBLEPOST=1438628368,1438628215][/DOUBLEPOST]
Personally I set YouTube to an add okay site and encourage others to do the same but its not that effective
Do you mean that you use an ad blocker but whitelist Youtube so that ads show up on Youtube?

Myspace was never the default solution. It was also never as big as FB, Google or YT are today. Detroning Myspace isn´t quite the same as detroning Youtube. To detrone Youtube as it is today, it would take a looooooooooooooooot.

You are not remembering correctly. MySpace was not only the default solution for social networking, but in 2006 (I believe) MySpace overtook google as the most visited website on the Internet. They were indeed the default solution for social media as well. Their numbers dwarfed that of other competing social media. Everyone was on MySpace at that point.

Wrong. FB is the most used social network in most countries. Myspace was not. It was in the US, but other countries had other social networks that were more popular. In my country, for example, nobody used Myspace. But right now, everybody uses FB. See the difference? Myspace was never even close to be as big as Youtube or Facebook are today.

Plus, Myspace was detroned by another site who did pretty much the same thing, but much better. It´s not the case with FB and YT. Two completely different websites.

FB has yet to prove that they can be an alternative to Youtube. They haven´t even attempted to be an alternative. They aren´t offering me the same product, they aren´t offering me the same tools, they aren´t offering me the same content. How can i assume that by 2020 or whatever they´re gonna be the default video platform? They aren´t offering me anything that comes even close to rival what YT offers me.

I figure the problem is human nature with greed in terms of these big companies whining about it. Provide a good product (without irrelevant advertising for said user) and good (not automated) services and people won't use it as much. I use it because I cannot stand watching through the same pre-roll ad 10 times in a row and likely something I have no interest in, there is something called variation and mixing things up advertising companies/sponsors/etc, utilize it! This is why I also use Ghostery to prevent tracking and other privacy issues from arising.

My main way of finding about products is either seeing them in actual stores, flyers, word of mouth or newsletters in my email, I don't need to have this BS shoved in my face on video websites.

Back in 2006 social networking really wasn't very popular in other countries. It wasn't so much that there were other default social network sites there, but rather that people in many other countries were still preferring to communicate via text message. Still, more people in the world were using MySpace than any other social network by a long shot, most of them where social networking first gained widespread popularity, in the United States. It was certainly the default social media network here in the states and Facebook came in and not only took control of the market, but was ultimately responsible for the widespread expansion of social media worldwide.

You can't expect things to happen overnight but it's clear that Facebook wants Youtube's market and will do whatever it takes to get it, starting with offering revenue share. If they become a viable competitor then we will all benefit. Competition is good. It's just my opinion but I think it's just a matter of time.

Now we should really either take this into private message or just end it soon as we have completely hijacked the thread at this point lol.

There is nothing more annoying than the same ad over and over. Hulu comes to mind. Every show I watch there are the same ads over and over for days sometimes.

That being said, if you are a Youtube partner and use an ad blocker that's kind of messed up in my opinion. Whether the ads are relevant or not, the partner is providing you entertainment. The least you can do is sit through 5 seconds and hit the skip button.

Actually I feel that way in general when speaking in the context of the little guy (Youtube partners, for example). If someone is providing you free entertainment, the least you can do is disable your ad blocker. We live in such a time of entitlement that many people apparently not only think that their entertainment to be free, but won't even be so inconvenienced as to watch 5 seconds of an ad and then skipping. Welcome to today's world.

Back in 2006 pretty much everyone i know used Hi5. Now pretty much everyone i know uses FB.

I understand what FB wants. I just don´t see any effort being done in that direction. I don´t see them trying. They´re still a completely different site from YT and their still lacking what makes YT number 1, in pretty much every way. Maybe next year they start trying to offer the same YT offers, but right now, i´m seeing nothing.
