Six days ago I had a video shoot up to 157,631. Gained 80,000 in one day. 3 weeks ago another shot up to 53,000. A 12,000 increase in one day.
Both were anomalies on my channel but, I've come to some conclusions from my observations.
Out of my 130 videos, and I'll be the first to say it, many are really bad, the ones I think are awful do well and the ones I think will do great, do poorly.
The video that got 12,000 views was a bad one. it was a slide show with no sound. It had a poor retention rate and almost as many dislikes as likes. Youtube picked it for promotion for one day and it shot up. I have no idea why they promoted this one. It picked up zero subscribers and had more dislikes than likes. Go figure on that one. But I did make a little money off of it.
The video with a one day 80,000 jump has been up for less than 2 months. It started off well, for my channel, doing 100 views a day. After 4 weeks it suddenly jumped to the 500 views a day range then 7 days ago it spike to 80,000 views, started to slide down and is doing about 2,000+ views a day now. But the really odd part is that the vast majority of views are coming from outside the US. Most come from Europe or Asia.
Both videos were monetized

and at one point I had considered deleting the slide show. At that time i was telling my wife that I was thinking of deleting my stinkers. She asked if they made anything and I said nickles and dimes. that's literally what they were making. She felt strongly that I shouldn't and her point was that they still attracted viewers and added to the monitization total so why would you delete them. at this point I think she's right. They all add to a sum greater than their total on your channel.
