What was your first big equipment upgrade?

Mine was the Zoom H1 microphone. My camera does not have great audio, so I knew it was time to upgrade. This was $100 USD, and I picked up an accessory pack for it which was about $26 USD. The best thing about this mic so far is that I can plug it in to my computer (USB mic), plug it into a camera, or just use it as a handy recorder. It's been extremely helpful!

I 'only' had to buy a camcorder, I had everything else to get started :)

The most dramatic upgrade for us was buying editing software! Before that we were editing in-camera or using Windows Movie Maker. Also the fact that the new software had chroma key meant we could do a lot more types of effects movies.

Hey I use a Zoom H1 too xD. I may be one of the few gaming channels that records my voice with a freaking voice recorder lol. I got mine new on ebay for $68 (screw the accessory pack :p) no usb cable though.

My Camera. Because for my first video we used my friends cheap $70 camera his dad gave to him. Then I decided months after (maybe a year) I wanted to make another video and that was when I got my 4th gen ipod touch. So I made videos with that and edited them using the iMovie app. Then I saved my money up for the Canon Rebel T3i. And here I am today :)

I changed from using my laptop for everything (filming, editing, gaming, whatever). Then I built a custom desktop and I use my laptop for uni work and light gaming and my desktop for music recording, screen capturing and more intense gaming. Definitely a decision I'm happy with!

Probably the jump from a pocket camcorder to the Panasonic V-100.

Ps: how do you use the Zoom H-1 as a usb mic? are there drivers you need to get first?

All you need is a mini USB cable. I got one with my Zoom H1 accessory pack. There are some tutorials on YouTube on how to set everything up. Just search "how to use Zoom H1 as USB mic". Your computer will have install some drivers, it will do this automatically.
