What to put up while discussing topics (like podcasting)

Hey all,

So I'm working on a new weekly (maybe every other week) series where I'll be discussing various topics in the gaming realm. It's basically going to work like a podcast, but just myself talking on a topic for 10 to 15 mins. If I have a guest or something, I can do a hangout, and I can just do a fullscreen facecam I guess, but is that really entertaining? I was wondering what tips you had for a gaming news/topics style podcast video on what I should throw in there. Random gameplay? Random footage related to what I am talking about (I tried this once using footage from press kits for VR stuff and it was copyright claimed, not that I need to monetize and I'm not making much of any money anyway, but still irked me).

Screenshots related to the topic that cycle every 20-30 seconds? While probably not the best solution, they should be relatively copyright-safe and they are still better than a still picture.

Well, I can do that and avoid copyright, and don't get me wrong I don't mind editing footage if I have my own to put up. But I want it to be somewhat entertaining. I think most people that "watch" these kind of videos don't really "watch" them but "listen" instead. Right now I'm listening to KindaFunnyGames Gamecast with YouTube red and screen off on my phone for example.

That being said, I want SOMETHING on screen, that isn't complete crap :P

I've started reporting on news within the gaming industry and I usually have some sort of gameplay with the sound of the gameplay turned down whilst I commentate. I have screenshots appear on the video of the topics I talk about which can range from writing or pictures. Some people do the same thing but speak in front of a camera and have screenshots throughout but I like having gameplay since people can watch something whilst taking the commentary in. Since I critique stuff and not just regurgitate the report, pictures don't become a problem since it leans towards fair use and it's more of accreditation towards where the info comes from.

That's a good idea. I'll look into this probably.

What I saw a sports podcast do once is leave up just one picture they created throughout the entire video but it had the topics on it with clickable annotations that would jump immediately to whenever they started talking about that topic. You could try that out as it gives viewers a chance to skip right ahead to a topic they might be very interested in.

That's not a bad idea either, thanks!
