What to look for in a contract?

JollyDangerous

I Love YTtalk
Exactly as the title says Im asking for some solid advice.
What should I be looking for in a contract from a network?
And what do I say no to?

Im shooting for a 1 year lock in at 70/30 split in my favor and full creative rights over my content with the option not to monetize every single video.

So with that being said
What should I look for in a contract?
As far as splits go or any other important information or pitfall traps.
What should I not accept or say no to ?

Please be as detailed as you want to. The more the better.

Oh also please have experience on the matter or at lease good reference material.

Also this is for a gaming channel

I have never signed with one either, but from all of my research the top main things to look for in a contract are:
Lock in period
support quickness
reliable company
past good and bad experiences with previous partners
cpm
split percentage you will get
which company offers you the best deal for your youtube channel

Again, these are just some things I look at. Of course I need second opinions as well, but from a newbie standpoint, this is what I look at. Also, there is a sticky at the top of this page that is the very exact question you asked......

Thanks I didnt notice it I'll check it out.

Have a read of this ;)

I seen that but my question is specifically about the contract. I mean what is a good split to take to start off with. I know the best is curse with 90/10 but the qualifications are high. I was offered 60/40 but I know that my channel has great potential and I can almost guarantee 10, 000 subs in a year. I was thinking should I push for 70/30 split?
What about all the other stuff. Can I bargin like that with a network?

What else do you think I should try to get in a contract before signing. Im going to have industry interviews and all that so can I ask for no network branding on my videos? I just would hate to sign a contact and regret not asking for something or have something I should have taken out.

60/40 is below average I would say. I wouldn't really go for it considering with more growth you could get a much better split. If you really think you can get 10,000 subscribers within a year, you definitely don't want to sign a 60/40 deal.
