What should I do?

I Love YTtalk
Hey guys.

So I am trying to learn how to be more funny on Youtube. Right now I write scripts and write out all my jokes. I watch Youtbers that I think are funny to try to learn how to do it as well. But the more and more I watch their videos, the more I realize that they're just being themselves and not worrying about it. I think that this is maybe what I should do, stop writing out my jokes and just turn on the camera with an outline of a script and film something.

I am a bit afraid to do that though, because I'm not what you would call a naturally funny person. People think my videos are pretty funny (and i do too tbh) but I took time to brainstorm. I'm not nearly as funny just doing it on a whim. Doing the whole "drop the script" thing will help me more in the long run but I have too much to risk right now. My channel doesn't have time to block off a few months for mediocre videos while I develop my skills. I need to keep the quality up so that the people that are subscribed to me won't be disappointed. And also, I have been growing a lot lately and there are always new people coming to my channel. What if I miss out on another 100 subscribers I could have had if I had just stuck with writing out my jokes?

As much as I want to do it now is not the right time. But when will it ever be the right time? From what I can tell, my channel is only going to keep growing and I'd like to keep the quality as high as possible. I don't know what to do :wat?::wat?::wat?:

As a self-proclaimed comedian,I know the feeling xD I used to not write scripts,at all. All of my videos were on spot, and people liked em,they were okay. Some videos were incredibly funny, others seemed forced. Now I write all my videos and people like it,and enjoy it. I do still enjoy winging it,because you can get your best jokes while messing around. I say,as dumb as this sounds, practice to yourself. Sit down, and think of jokes for a good hour or so. If you like a joke, write it down, if you don't,move on. The best thing for a comedian to do, is to practice. Not everything you say will be funny as a comedian, whats funny to you may sound stupid to someone else, but you got to find what you find funny, and do it. Hope I helped ;D

Maybe do both? Keep doing your scripts and everything for certain videos, but also have a video every once in a while thats on the spot. Lets look at Shane Dawson, for example. He has one channel for his written skits and all that, but he also has his vlogs and challenge/tag videos on another channel that aren't really planned.
I'm not saying make a different channel, but it is possible to do both and have it work out very well.

okay cool! i will try that :)

It's kind of funny since my game plan is to practice a ton of unscripted videos before gaining subscribers and marketing my videos everywhere.

Anyways, you could try doing a scripted video, and then expand on the topic off the cuff. Afterwards just edit out the parts you don't like that were unscripted. Editing is magic I tell you. Magic!
