What makes you want to click on a thumbnail?

Just make something with bright colours that stands out from the rest but is also not the same as any others

I much prefer the simple ones, busy thumbnails look cluttered, and makes me think the videos will be messy too. But honestly, I look at the title and video length more than anything - until recently, I didn't even know how important thumbnails were to some people!

That is something hard to tell. Sometimes I look for something simplistic (image, simple text, logo of maker) sometimes I click on funny one. Guess basically what thumbnail is standing out compared to others (sorry for not being more specific)

I like simple thumbnails that show the overall feel of the video. I hate when the thumbnail might look great, but then I click on the video and it was completely different from the feel of the thumbnail. I rather have a simple screen shot from the video than something that they worked really hard on but gives a different impression than what the video actually is.

I mainly watch vlogs / gaming videos, and I've found that I mainly click on:

Vlogs - Usually point out the best part to entice you to click on the video, for example - Roman Atwood's latest vlog is titled "Destroyed the christmas tree", with the thumbnail being them stood over the christmas tree with it laid on the ground.

Gaming videos - I've seen a lot of people using the "rainbow" thumbnail trend, but I find that big bold text is probably the best thing to go for.

Just don't use misleading thumbnails that have nothing to do with the video what-so-ever!!

Eye catching thumbnails are what your going for not just good quality ones :) you want good quality with a pinch of 'ooh I wanna see this video because the thumbnail catches my attention'
