What makes bigger YouTubers better?

I'd disagree and say that it's both. I didn't watch his videos so I'm not saying they're bad or anything, but I think people need to remember that most of the really big channels have really good content. The volume of similar videos out there just determines how good you have to be to get noticed. But all the advertising in the world won't make a channel successful if the content isn't better than the rest of the videos out there.
 
I think with a lot of bigger youtubers it becomes like a brand. I mean honestly if given the choice would you rather an authentic brand name like Nikes or some knock-off sneaker you've never even heard of? Say they're both free and you can only pick one, I'd probably go for the Nikes. Hope that analogy makes sense :P

you have a point there on one thing ... they can afford better preparation for the content that is about to be launched but the content itself is made by them ... generally ... but if the content ... if what they actually do in the video is not interesting or just boring then i´m with @soulred12 on this one not even all the publicity / advertising in the world can help that person make a great youtube channel
