What makes a Vlog a Vlog?

I'm very confused by the definition of a Vlog. Some channels mix music with what they call Vlogs which consist of challenges or games such as "Whisper Challenge". Are games and challenges really considered Vlogs? Other YouTubers have told me that walking around shopping is a Vlog while other YouTubers tell me that's not a Vlog.

I'm asking because a few popular YouTubers I know have more than one Channel. One YouTuber I sub to has a Vlog and Music Channel but seems to mix random videos on both channels. What is purpose of having two separate channels when both channels have random videos but yet only one is called Vlog Channel and the other is a music channel with random videos?

I like to day that there are two types of vlogs. You have a daily vlog like CTFxC and the ShayTards do. There is also a sit down vlog where you sit in front of a camera, speak about an experience and such like Tyler Oakley. A sit down vlog does also have a song in the background to go with it. Challenges and Tags could also be considered as part of the vlogging category.

Maybe the random things on their main channel is because it can be appealing to all types of people. The other channels with more specific content can be geared towards a specific type of people who like that specific type of content.

If my main Channel is Comedy with skits, music entertainment should I be using that channel for Vlogs and random videos?

Fair question! It does seem like 'vlog' has become a catch-all phrase for the alternative channel from the main one.

I was thinking at one point to start a music channel where all my music videos were on there. But I think that would only make sense if my music got popular.

I have a seperate channel for my production business with concerts, documentaries and royalty free music I make. I want to expand to have tutorials, technology like video game reviews, computers etc. I want this part of my business. Should o have this under the same channel as concerts, documentaries and royalty free music? It sounds silly to make a channel for every category

i don't see challenge videos as being a vlog.
i see a video blog / vlog to be almost like a diary, the intentions are very nuetral but people find intresting

agree! "vlogging" means video blogging. and "blogging" is: "containing a writer's own experiences, observations, opinions, etc." so i consider vlogging to be anything personal featuring myself, about myself, etc. That's pretty broad!
