What makes a good thumbnail?

I think one of the things that has been lacking in quality for me has been my thumbnails. I am really trying to improve on them, what do you guys think makes a good thumbnail?

Try to pay attention to color- bright colors are very eye-catching and viewers will be more likely to click on them in the long run. Hope this helped!

Big bold letters that can clearly be read..So many people just upload still images, and its hard to gauge what a video is about, just based on an image.
