To be honest, I get annoyed with most camera threads as people seem to want decent audio and video quality on a stupidly small budget, but at least five hundred dollars here is fairly reasonable. While getting a cheap video camera might seem to be a pretty good idea at first, if you are only spending five hundred dollars, I'm presuming that you would like it to be fairly versatile, and to use it outside of youtube duties as well. So, I would suggest a digital still camera instead. At the price, you might be able to get a basic dslr, but it you aren't using an external microphone which can be very expensive, they have terrible sound. Henceforth, I would suggest a canon G series camera like a G16, choose the version depending upon what sort of deal you can get and you will have a small, versatile camera that is pretty good.
