What is your reasoning for/against monetization ?

I dont understand why you wouldnt monetise?
I don´t have a problem with the "shaming". I rarely get comments, i dont think that suddenly people would shame me for ads.
My reasoning is : People see an ad, they will click away.
But Sin B made a good argument that people who get bothered by ads use adblock. Most of my viewers are from this forum or reddit so i guess they either dont care watching ads or have adblock.

Hello folks !

Since i am thinking about monetizing my videos in 2017 i wanted to know your reasoning why you monetized yours/didn´t monetize them.

In 5 weeks i have made 2200 views. If i account for some growth i think calculating with 2000 views per month is reasonably. With 2$ CPM it would take me about 2 years to reach the 100$ payment limit. Even with some videos that go somewhat viral and some more luck its not likely i will reach the 100$ threshold within a year.
While it might be a nice motivation boost and a fun thing to optimise, this amount of money isnt really much to me..

So yeah im pretty split about this whole monetizing thing so it would be great to hear about your motivations.

I don't monetize my videos because it's not the right time. However, if I was to ever monetize my videos and make money it will be to improve my equipment :D

There is nothing wrong with monetizing your video IMHO. I think monetizing not only helps put a few pennies in your pocket but allows you to find out which content is preforming better in the terms of advertisement. I often will sit through all the ads of a creator I like to help support them. After all creating content isn't free.

Though I absolutely love what I am doing on YouTube, it does cost me money to do it; particularly since my videos don't involve face cam in any form. This means I need lots of stock footage to keep my videos "fresh", so to speak. As I am an Experimental Musician as well as a hypnotist, there is a further outlay for audio composition and editing software.

Though YouTube doesn't yet even cover all my expenses, it does give back a tiny bit of my yearly spend; which at this point in time, runs from $500.00-$2000.00 spread across multiple channels.

My videos are usually really low production, but i am looking to buy a new mic and editing software wich would add up to 300$ - not a small amount for a student like me. I don´t have big hopes to earn more than 5 dollars a month, but once that adds up to the 100$ payment threshold i guess i will be glad that i enabled monetization today :)

Do you know Jan, that you can A: have your payments held for up to a year, and if in that year they do not reach threshold, they will keep rolling over until they do or B: You can set your own Adsense payout threshold, and a payment won't be issued til your own set threshold has been met?

Just monetize whenever you feel the time is right.... Period.
My time is set at 100 subs because 100 subs is my first challenge.
Keep setting up bars, one higher up than the next, and you will surely see growth.

Wow, alot of you guys have reallyyy thought into it. I have recently turned on monetising as I have had a fair amount of growth since starting my channel a few months ago! I thought 1k subs would be a good marker for when to start monetising. I havent made anything yet so I guess I will see in the coming month whether It was a good idea or not. I guess Im kind of winging it! Haha
