What is your process?

I usually think them up at work and plan them out all through out the day. Tho I never write them in a script probably need to work on that! So how does your thought process work when making videos?

A majority of my videos are just point and shoot because dogs are very random. Some of my videos I actually plan out a bit, such as time lapse videos or cool angles of dogs, etc. Most of the time when I'm planning something I think of the desired effect I'm looking for (slow motion, interesting angles, or other things that I actually plan on shooting like my belly flop videos). The one I've been editing the past few days I placed my GoPro in the grass at the dog park and tried to catch cool angles of dogs running at or jumping over the camera in slow motion. I basically planned out a few different angles and methods of making the dogs run at the camera. Here's a pic a grabbed from my video where I asked a person if they could throw their ball at my camera.

Here are some that I took with my old GoPro of my dog Lola

I usually just will be listening to a new song (or even an old one) and be like YEAH THIS IS GOOD. And then a week later I'll have a video queued/scheduled for release.

I don't have much of an idea process, I just write things down in my notebook as they come to me. As for scripts, I tend to just write down bullet points (especially if I'm doing some sort of an informative video) and just talk. The beauty of editing is you can cut it wherever!

Our process for script writing is actually pretty extensive. We're typically 2-3 people generating a script. First, we come up with a series of topics, which represent themes for episodes. For example, what to wear for your first date. After choosing a topic, we brainstorm. In this process we assemble any and all ideas we come up with. These are things we feel could be incorporated into the episode. After selecting a couple of the assembled ideas, we jot down the events of the episode and how our selected ideas present themselves. Essentially, we create an outline. After that we write the script as a group, bouncing lines off one another and going with what we think fits best. This process can take anywhere from an hour to three hours depending on the extent of the script.
After the script is written out, we typically take it to a third party for a second opinion on the material.

Im still finding my feet so at the moment I just think of key things that will likely interest youtube viewers. I then do a very basic plan of how each idea would work. Then I select which is the most reliable idea which may not only interest viewers but also not create too much work for myself as its just me filming, editing and uploading. So in order to create a respectable channel with regular content I dont want something thats going to take a very long time to create, unless I know its going to catch a lot of interest. Which is currently what im working on now but my PC has decided to die on me at the worst possible time lol
Can only come to this forum when im at work at the moment :crying:

Interesting topic.

for me, I get a basic idea and note it down (always carry a notebook with me when im out and about, and next to where I sleep, ideas happen any time of the day :D)
I then write it on my whiteboard at home. If it's still funny/interesting to me after a few days I start work on it.

- scribble down a storyboard on paper with tiny thumbnails.
-sketch full storyboard scene to scene in Flash
- by then I have a script ready for voices
- find some voice actors/actresses and get recordings
- put the voices into flash and time out the frames to match the timing of the animation
- actually make the animation :P
- export it without sound and import into after effects
- add sound back in and make sure it's all synched, + add sound effects
- Export big fat file of doom
- shrink big fat file of doom using MPEG streamclip to turn it into a bitesize MP4
- Finally upload :3

my process is

- lay on my bed/couch listening to some sort of rock music
- try to think of an theme/idea
- write it in my vlogpad (what I call my notepad with vlog ideas)
- expand on it (more ideas)
- write a script
- make the video
- edit the video
- upload it on a Friday
- repeat

I don't have much of a process, things just come to me, and if I can do it, I do it. Some of my videos can show that, most of them show rather p**s poor planning, xD

Since I don't have a regular place to shoot my videos, and my roommate thought it was a good idea to break my tripod, I'm a little slow on the draw.

I'm also thinking about building a gaming channel.

I try to think of some ideas that are different and that would grab people's attention, since I work about 40 hrs a week at my day job, I'm usually thinking about my channel non-stop, my ideas are born in the office and get brought to life on camera in the kitchen. Every idea isn't the best so I usually debate with my husband who created the channel and the name for me, what he thinks and we usually work on it together.
