What is considered as a decent 'watch time' average?

Mine fluctuates only a little between 1:10 and 1:20. This seems low to me, but then again I actually try to keep my videos brief.

there isnt a general watchtime because all content creators have different length videos so its going to vary from channel to channel. i would say figure out the average time of your videos and compare it to the watch time to give you a better perspective.

So then it's audience retention. What's a decent retention %? I see other stating figures in the 20's, which mine falls into.

That also depends on your video length. If you want to rank high for videos that are 1 minute max than you may need an audience retention that is well above even 100% while when you make videos that are an hour long you can rank high with 20% audience retention.

I have a little less than that (about 1.05 -1.10) and i´m fine with that, as long as people watch the videos!

My average flucuates around 4 mins which kinda sucks because I mainly do full game commentaries, but I also have some short videos to, so more people watch those. Mine is constantly going up now though which is good.

I would go more off of percentage. A lot of my videos are under a minute long, some of my mountain biking videos are up to 15 minutes long. The short ones have a much better percentage most of the time.

People get bored very quickly indeed, and the difficulty is to keep them entertained for a few minutes. This task gets harder as the video length increases. Short videos are better for more audience retention
