What is a good Audience Retention average?

Mine is at 55% (average 1:23 viewing) but my videos aren't too long and I don't have a ton of views overall yet. I tend to flux between 54 and 56%. However, so far, it's not really leading to subscribers so I don't know what it's doing for me.

I don't really pay attention to it because my times range from 1-25 minute videos.

I know we live in a generation where people have more ADD, but don't let that stop you from working on longer projects you're passionate about.

Valid point but at the same time, audience retention has a lot to do with ranking your videos in searches so it is an important factor people shouldn't overlook.

why? if BattleGeekPlus has longer videos whose length negatively affect rankings due to ppl's ADD-ness there's nothing that can be done about it

So just say f**k it then? Why bother TRYING to up your rankings to get more views? If you're a small channel, isnt the goal to get your videos out to as many peeps as possible? Why not break your videos down into smaller sizes to up that audience retention? Then later, as you get bigger you lengthen your videos to where you want them?
Saying "theres nothing that can be done about it" is the reason the small stay small and the ones that TRY to break the norm usually succeed.

small or large the goal is always the same

but if you're video doesn't lend itself to being cut into pieces, again, there is nothing you can do about retention. i know i'm not gonna cut my music into little pieces just for retention. that's just silly

the retention stat is def not perfect and probably has more weight than it should

True but nobody would cut music into pieces, thats just stupid. Im talking about gamer videos like BattleGeekPlus. Theres so much room to cut gaming videos, just because most dont do it, doesnt make it smart. There's quite a few medium size gamers that cut their stuff into parts (i.e. Part 1, Part 2, etc.).
True, there might be too much emphasis on audience retention but that is HOW IT IS! Telling people to ignore it cuz you choose too is just bad advice.

That's also true, but there's far more ways to get your videos seen other than just the searches. I'd love to be able to just get search traffic, but the type of videos I do don't really cater well to search engines.

Oh, I absolutely agree with you! My monthly search views is only 14% (last time I checked) of total monthly views. Im just saying some people can do better in searches than others and it would be a shame for others to not try to get up in searches if its possible.
Its all about trying and learning for experience.

I mostly do gaming parody videos, so most people looking up "Call of Duty Ghosts Walkthrough" won't find my stuff. Most of my traffic has come from social media, especially tweeting popular game sites, posting on forums, sharing on google+, etc .
