What, in your opinion makes good effective branding and artwork?

Branding wise I stick to a theme I like it when the avatar picture and the banner coincide or at least are related to each other. So for me with my name being FrostTee everything on my channel is ice/snow/theme related as far as my intro vid, banner, and avatar picture.
