What Happens When You Ban Someone From Your YouTube Channel

Michael

I Love YTtalk
Does anyone know exactly what banning someone from a channel does, does it prevent them from receiving video updates, subscribing, liking and disliking, commenting etc or does it appear to them as if nothing has changed and their activity no longer makes an impact on the channel? I am curious if they are even aware of the banning or not.

I have never had to ban anyone before, just wondering what happens when you do it, cheers guys :)

Done it to a few people on the channel below, for sure means they can no longer comment on videos nor the channel itself.

Not sure about anything else :P

Thanks Shane, I did have a look a moment ago and on the Google Support page it mentions they block comments and messages, I was hoping it also blocks like and dislike activity and receiving videos in their feed or perhaps even unsubscribes them or prevents them from subscribing, I should probably set up a test account and try it for myself :D

You need to fix your channel URL type for those two in Personal Details since they use the legacy URL type AFAIK :)

I banned a guy a year ago because he's an annoying, stalker creeper. His existence completely disappeared from my channel. However, recently he replied to one of my comments I posted on a video. I checked out his G+ and he has just been commenting on my videos like whatever but I just never got any notification of it. I guess if you block someone the person doesn't notice.

This is how it works.

Banning someone from your channel ghost bans them. They can still post on your channel, but their comments are only visible to themselves.

It's a good system.

Unlike Youtubes shadowban system in general which makes absolutely no sense.

I banned somebody a few months ago and for some reason, it allowed them to reply to my comment that I had made on somebody else's video. Interestingly, it allowed me to delete the reply in another channel's comment section. I went to that person's Google Plus page and muted them. Maybe that will finally get rid of them.

Thanks guys, thats interesting Mark, I will take a look at that mute feature too, I didnt know there was two ways to ban someone, I thought it was an all in one block/ban :D
