What happens to old videos that start to go viral?

I started promoting an old video to drive traffic to my new one and it unexpectedly started getting crazy views. I uploaded it a month ago so it's way past new. Does anyone know if this will help with ranking? It originally had only 7000 views, but just over night it added 2000 views and I predict it'll only keep exponentially growing as it's now getting over 750 views per hour. At the very least, I hope it allows the video to stay high in search for a much longer period of time.

What happens is you get more subs and views This happens to me at times, after a few weeks after uploading it starts to pick up some pace. Not sure if it will rank higher, but you are getting a lot of traffic so that's got to be a good thing!

You can use it as a gateway video. Do things like linked annotations to your newer videos and it should help your channel grow.

It should help its ranking. May actually be worth going back and doing a once-over on your tags and description to see if you can even further optimize it for additional views.

I'm always on reddit finding big subreddits and crafting ways to promote there effectively. Getting thousands of views for literally 10 minutes worth of promoting is the best return of my time.

Success on Reddit might depend on your niche. I focus mainly on self-improvement, productivity, social skills and persuasion. Like if I had a gaming channel, I'd have no idea how to be able to promote that effectively.

I'm not an expert promoting anything related to cooking and puppets, but there's a few big subreddits for men and perhaps your videos about long hair would do well there, if you made your title catchy enough.
