"What games should I play?" Is not the right question

I've Got It
Hello.

So, while browsing the forum, you see some recurring threads appearing every couple of days. There's the infamous "What editing software should I use?" or "How do I get more subs" but the one that really stands out to me is "What games should I play?"

Seems like a normal question but I think it says a lot about the person writing it and the approach they have to making YT videos.
By asking this question to strangers on a forum you're pretty much saying "Hey, I don't care what videos I make as long as I can get as many people to watch them". If you were to ask it to your subscribers then it's a different story because you're playing towards your audience rather than playing what attracts most audience.

I think it also applies to non-gaming related creators asking similar questions. You shouldn't make a video about a specific topic because you think it will get a lot of views, your should make videos about what you're passionate about.

Some people would call this thread a rant but I'm just sharing what I had on my mind recently.
Whether you agree or disagree with me I would love to hear your opinions on the topic. :)

It's just one way of looking at the issue. You could also say that people simply do not have ideas for next videos and seek for inspiration.

I agree that it's annoying when the question pops up multiple times a day, when it's always the exact same answer.
But I do believe that people shouldn't be afraid to ask for ideas. I've asked a few times for ideas for my animations. Although I do feel like asking for a storyline is different for asking what videogame to play.

Well you are right. I always make videos that I am passionate about. Even though I don't get more subs. But yeah many viewers appreciate my work because I am passionate about it :)

True, true and true. Can't we make a sticky thread with the answers and forbid all the "How do I make more subscribers" or "Check me out" threads?

Isn't the idea of YouTube to be a community? Asking people for suggestions and then shouting out that person who gave you that suggestion should be allowed.

If you are serious about what you are saying and this isn't just a lame excuse for click bait so people will half a** read your post, then your post should be banned as well. You are not answering a question and you are begging for attention. You are basically saying "I know I joined this YouTube based forum where people are bound to ask questions and ask for suggestion on their next video, but honestly I just want to spam my own s**t and I don't care about being part of a community. Heck, I'll even leave a pointless rant inside a forum section that is clearly labeled to try to help people with their YouTube channels! It'll be like taking a bite out of an apple to show that I am a douche."

Yes, it's definitely different. By asking for ideas for your animations you're staying true to your original content so I don't see anything wrong with it. If you were to ask "What videos should I make" than it would look like you want to do whatever gets people to watch your content.

They should make it so when you type one of those questions in a thread it automatically searches the forum for the 100's of threads with the same title rather than starting a new one.;)

That's true, I haven't mentioned that it's not allowed.

I spent waaaay to much time writing this thread to call it click bait, Anyway, how would I benefit from people reading my thread? I would also appreciate if you explained why this post should be banned, I don't think I'm anywhere near breaking any forum rules.

There's nothing wrong with asking questions, that's the ideas behind a forum. This thread focuses on one specific type of question that I see way to often and decided to share my opinion on it.
I feel slightly offended about you saying that I don't care about being a part of the community and I don't understand why you feel that way. If you look at my previous posts you will see that I always try to help, and provide as much information as I can, sometimes I even do some research to help about questions I don't know much about. I don't have my YT channel linked in on this forum so I'm not benefiting in any way from having a lot of people seeing me on the forum, I spend the little free time that I have on helping out so I have to admit It hurts a little when you claim that "spam my own s**t and I don't care about being part of a community"

If you want to talk more about this, maybe give me a private message so we can understand each other views a bit more, I wanted this thread to be a conversation not an argument . :)

I dont think everyone that asks that question is being lazy. I imagine they hope to get a lot of suggestions and then pick out games from those suggestions they forgot about, new ones they were thinking of trying out, other gamers can suggest games they really enjoy, because the indie game market is so strong these days its easy to miss a lot of great gems :)

You are right, I thought of that when writing this thread but due to time restriction and not wanting to write a whole essay about it I just stated the main point I wanted to make.
