What does Twitter really do for Youtubers?

So in some other threads, I've noticed some people are confused as to how to use Twitter to promote their videos and reach an audience.

I myself take 15 second blips of the latest video, and pair that on twitter with a link to my new video, I also do the same on Instagram since Instagram only allows 15 seconds of video.

I use proper hashtags, or sometimes trending hashtags to get some reach, follow people in my niche in hopes of getting some eyeballs on my content... that's my basic strategy.... So how does everyone else use Twitter to their advantage? there seems to be some confusion as to how to really streamline this particular Social Media channel... Who has had success on Twitter as a Youtuber?

Here are links to my Twitter and Instagram for reference:

I've given up on Twitter after experimenting with it.

It does nothing for me, Twitter is just retarded. Maybe other Youtubers has different experiences than mine....

I think I gained 0 attention from twitter other than someone who already watched my channel, so I'd say I'm pretty bad at this particular social media, but your strategy sounds legit mate, has it worked so far?

right, here is a tip, frustrated Twitter people. I'm a social media coordinator so I kind of know what I'm talking about.... Twitter's "culture" is that of a "follow back" kind of culture... If I follow someone, it wouldn't be unusual for them to follow me back (sounds like Sub for Sub, right?) Well who cares, it's Twitter... you're not really going to use it for anything but video promotion anyways right? Can't hurt to follow some people, in hopes they follow you back and get your updates when you drop a new video.... chances you wouldn't reach these people otherwise, right?

SO, My comedy is similar to someone who would appreciate the TV shows "Workaholics" or "It's always Sunny in Philadelphia" ..... So, I go to the "Workaholics" Twitter, and take a look at their followers.... Follow some of those people.... they get notified, SOME will follow me back and glance at my Twitter page.... say to themselves "Who the hell are these weird guys?" Click on the videos to check it out, and there is a high probability that these people might like my videos, because I already know what kind of comedy they like......

Now, I don't get a TON of views and subs from Twitter, but it is consistent. And maybe they follow me, don't check out my page right away.... but the next time I drop a video it shows up in their twitter feed and then they see it at that point and say, "Wow, these Binky Bunson guys are F'ing Weird.... Oh I like that, where can I see more" and then they go to my Youtube and Boom.... another sub....

It isn't the place where I find a ton of subs and views.... but, it does work ;) Does that help? what does everybody else do, maybe I'm not optimizing it the best that I can?

Here are the links for referance again, Instagram, basically the same strategy, except Instagram hashtags work better for discover-ability:

I've had some retweets and favorite of the videos I post, however I don't just post videos on twitter - I talk a lot of sh*t to.

I haven't used #tags yet, but I am considering following some for games i"m currently playing just to learn a bit more about the types of content twitter users like.

I need to work out how to use twitter properly. Im terrible at it. I think its more of a 'oh I have seen that name before, I will see what they do' type thing as opposed to directly 'hooking' people.

it's great for interacting with my favourite youtubers, and a few fans that like my WIP screenshots. I got retweeted by a few Pokemon twitter fan pages which might have me a little boost

Twitter (and Instagram to a slightly lesser degree) is the best way to reach out to major brands as a content creator. I haven't found it that effective generating traffic and getting new viewers over to our channel page, but it's been a great tool to communicate with brands and the PR agencies that represent them that would otherwise ignore you if you tried to send them an email.

I use Twitter to interact with other YouTubers and bloggers. I have found it's the best for conversations, but the greatest at actually getting views. I always tweet out a link to my new video when I upload, and I tweet the picture of my thumbnail, and I have found that the hashtag "SmallTuber" can be helpful! They usually retweet the tweet, and it gets me a couple of extra views which is cool! Twitter definitely isn't my main source of advertisement for my channel, but it is a part of it nonetheless.
