What does it generally take to make 300$ per month?

I'm managing to make 300$ a month after 10 months of youtube, don't expect to become popular quick bro.
If you're doing youtube becaise you want money , without an original idea - I suggest not wasting your time

I plan on creating a channel revolving around a "top list" ( in english ) not really on a specific niche just things that I think people would be interested in ( I haven't completely decided on this yet ).

Now back to the question in the title:
I want to know roughly how big of a channel would I need to make that amount? Is it even realistic to think that I could succeed ?

As others have said, it all depends.

If your videos happen to be in the right market and are watched in the U.S., Western Europe, or Australia, you could make $300 in as little as 100k views. If it's a more typical market you're reaching, you might need as many as 600-750k views a month. If most of your views come from Mexico, Central America, Africa or the Middle East, you might need up to a few million views.

There are far too many variables to be able to say anything with confidence.

It should also be noted that videos also tend to earn more the higher their view counts go. If a brand new video and one that had 1M views each gain 50k views in a month, the new one will earn significantly less.

Lastly, there are already countless "top lists" video channels and it would likely be difficult gaining traction in an already competitive market. Not to mention that, depending on the topic of the list, you could easily run into numerous copyright issues and hurdles.

I'm not trying to dissuade you. I'm just giving you an honest idea of what to expect.

Best of luck.

Generally once you reach around 20,000 subscribers and make weekly videos you should earn a sallary of $500 a week. No one can live off this little money, so I suggest getting a part time job until you reach 100,000 subscribers. For the best of us this should take atleast a couple of years.

I would find a nice part time job, I wouldn't focus on making YouTube money too much though, unless you are getting a lot bigger. Mostly when people get 100K subscribers or more they decide to drop everything and go fulltime YouTube. So I would wait till you get there, just don't let money be your main reason to be on YouTube. That influences that quality, it should be all about having fun!

It's really not easy making any decent money on YouTube, unless you have at least 50,000 subscribers and lots of regular views.
I have nearly 400,000 overall views and just over 1,300 subscribers and have made less than 1000$ in the 2.5 years I've had my videos monetised.

I treat my YouTube channel as a hobby that sometimes gives me a bit of money too :)
