What does it generally take to make 300$ per month?

Why 300$? I live in a place where this is what the low average job would pay, but these jobs are not worth the time and energy, I will not be a slave for such a low amount of money.

So I decided I'm going to make money online and I'm not going to stop trying no matter what anyone says. I've actually made a few bucks here and there and youtube is one of the things I'd really love to succeed at.

Creating my own content, "sharing my creativity with the world" just seems to me like the most fun way of generating income.

I plan on creating a channel revolving around a "top list" ( in english ) not really on a specific niche just things that I think people would be interested in ( I haven't completely decided on this yet ).

Now back to the question in the title:
I want to know roughly how big of a channel would I need to make that amount? Is it even realistic to think that I could succeed ?

Should I apply for a network or should I just monetize it with the regular youtube ads?

I know there are many factors to consider and no one can give me an exact answer, I'm just looking for a ballpark ... what should I expect. Also I see many people say the estimated earnings on social blade are pretty much bs and most people earn under their lowest estimations which is frankly quite scary because it means that it's very hard to earn any money on youtube.

Thoughts?

With the channel your making Id say its gonna take you a very very long time before your making 300$ a month, You would be better off running your channel but maybe also do some free work somewhere in a job field you want to go into, then after about a month working there start applying for paid positions in what you would be doing

I'm not quite sure how much views you would need per video per month to do that but it's not as realistic as one would hope. It takes a long time if you can't make a couple of viral, monetised videos. Not saying don't try to reach that goal but realistically, just know that a lot of hard work and luck would need to go into it in order to make that much. I agree with @Adam_Fitz.

You might want to rethink about being a "slave" for 300 bucks, because the odds of you becoming huge are very slim. If you want to be a starving artist thats cool, but you should at least have a part time job.

Yeah pretty much the demoralising answers I thought I was going to get.

I actually have a friend who made 23k last year and 13k so far this year and he could've made a lot more if not for his health problems. This is not from youtube by the way, it's from another way of making money online, so maybe I'll give that a go if youtube is that impossible.

But unfortunately you're right ... I see so many of you struggling to get a few subscribers a month, why should it be any different for me. I still do not want to succumb to the regular jobs but thanks for the advice..

... Alright I'll bite! what does your friend do? Adult webcams? I needz ta know!

Well it's different for everyone so take this with a grain of salt. Right now for my channel we average around 25-30k views a day and that brings in about 35-45 dollars a day. So based on that we average about 1K a month. So to get $300 a month you'll need about 10k views a day? Again it's different for the type of channel that you have, if people actually watch the ads, what country mainly watches your stuff...etc...

Yeah you got a nice channel, I heard toy reviews get the biggest amount of views these days also I see you're getting payed really well compared to others around here. And yeah I doubt I would make that amount with the type of channel I want to make.
Anyway this is the sort of response I was looking for ... hope your channel keeps on growing ! Good luck to you.

To give you an idea, I was earning more than this in december last year, and less than this this year. It ranges throughout the year thanks to jav ads vs christmas ads.
so my size channel earns near that to give you an idea. hope this helps

RyanToyReviews is about right from my experience in 2014. I was making ~$1 per 1,000 views (disregarding monetized or not) so 10k views/day or 300k views/month is about $300/month. It differs for different channels though. This year, however, earnings have been extremely low. I've been making over 50% less this year for the same amount of views so making money on youtube isn't great right now..

I know everyone wants to do youtube for a living but I recently quit youtube and starting writing game reviews for a website on my spare time and am already making 10-20x more money than youtube for the same amount of work.
