What does everyone on youtube consider "selling out" to be?

My idea of a sellout is pretty simple, anyone who recommends or promotes a brand, product or item purely for any kind of personal gain, be that money or gifts

Although i have brands I have faith in, i do not recommend anything I have not personally used myself even from brands i know/trust

The problem is there maybe times someone recommends a product they genuinely believe in and just happen to get the chance of making/getting something back for it, but how often does that happen & if they are gaining from it, how can you ever really know if the recommendation is real

What if they chose to Be sponsored by brands they actually liked? You gotta make money somehow. You are saying that sketchers or a favorite band of yours is a sell out because they make money? If you think that then why you even supporting anyone?
 
Well being sponsored by brands they like, what if they like a brand that`s known for rubbish, so they are then recommending rubbish stuff that may cost people their hard earned money

You also don`t HAVE to make money from Youtube, Youtube was never meant to be a job or money maker just a place to post interesting videos about various things, the option of making money from it only exists due to the popularity which in turn means big business interest, which leads to opportunities to make money

I don`t consider myself crazy and i don`t monetize, yet i still make the effort to make decent quality content and i really get sick of the attitude, i need to make money to pay for my equipment, chances are you would buy all the equipment anyway, because you don`t buy a pc just make Youtube video`s, being able to make high quality content is just a side affect of having these products anyway

As long as someone is being honest when recommending things people are going to spend their money on, i don`t care how they make the money, sponsor deals, ads etc

But how many Youtubers, especially the bigger and greedier they get have deals and promote the most random stuff

I'm perfectly fine with youtubers having sponsorships and whatnot, and if theyre doing a legitimate "review," then yeah, they should be honest. There's nothing wrong with making money for all the work they put in.

The only time it ever irks me is when their content doesn't take much effort, time, or skill and they begin sponsoring like crazy and being untruthful or secretive, or even start acting differently. That's when I consider them to be selling out
 
Selling out for me would be taking clips of a dog just chilling out and adding sad music and saying he's so sad and depressed because he is in a shelter (and don't mention or show when he's happy about playing and going for a walk).

Personally I have my business as part of YouTube. So I am making money from it. I feel like it's best to donate my money to good causes. I won't waste it on cars etc.
 
Losing yourself with the focus just on money and moving farther away than what your subscribers loved you for back then. It's becomes pretty blatant.

I know many Youtubers that haven't changed since they started till current date to when they're still making money. There are some others that are hardly even active on their own channels and make other people do the work for them now.
