For me I use my IPad Mini. - Note I earned it with a scholarship! DONT JUDGE ME!
I have to use about 3 non-paid applications to make a video.
I don't have a laptop or anything to edit.
I have a camera, but I'm not sure if you could connect it to this.
Everything would so much easier for me if I did have a laptop.
What do you use?
What you wish that you had that would make everything easier?
Though my pro rig is a Canon 60D for footage, a Zoom H1 with a Lav for sound, and Final Cut Pro on my iMac - I've also been using an iPad and iPhone to make videos as well!
Firstly there are three paid apps you should use that will make the WORLD of difference for you.
FiLMiC PRO (5 bucks or so)
This app (which will also carry over to your iPhone so you don't have to pay for it twice) gives you FULL control over your camera. That means you can select footage size AND framerate. Dropping your frame rate from 30 to 24 will give you that "film look" and boost your production quality! It also gives you easy control of your white balance and your focus.
Pinnacle Studio
This app (I think like 12 bucks or so) was the app I wanted from iMovie. It gives you a LOT more control over your footage and audio. You can get picture in picture, text overlay, and the fine control over editing that a desktop can give. There's a lot of tutorials on YT for it - check it out!
And the best investment:
FiLMiC Remote
(again like 5 bucks , but it's also a one time pay for all iDevices thing) THIS. I can not speak highly enough of this. With this, you can connect as many other iDevices with FiLMiC PRO on them to one iDevice! This means you can use your iPad Mini as a monitor for the rear (and better) camera on your iPhone. You can start and stop takes without having to get up and move! You can even coordinate a 2 camera shoot if you have an iPod Touch or whatever!
You combine these with an inexpensive tripod or stand, and you've got a mobile video studio!
Plus - there IS a way to get better sound on your iPad/iPhone
Head over to KVconnection dot com and and search for "iPhone 1/8 inch microphone adapter – 3.5mm 4 conductor TRRS Male to 3.5mm Microphone Input Jack" (I'd link to the page, but we can't in the forum.)
It's a wire that plugs into the headphone jack and allows you to use ANY 3.5mm mic. Check out the video I shot and edited on my iPad that shows first hand how the mics sound with and without! www DOT youtube DOT com/watch?v=Yep8BgxtYZU
