What do you think of dislikes?

Wait really? Dislikes affect your video in a positive way? I mean i know likes are important to rank your video up i thought dislikes do the complete opposite and pushes it back. Man if that so i'm not stressing no more! lol Idc if someone dislikes it cuz they don't like the video but it really bothers me if they're ruining the whole ranking cuz i put effort in ESO every time and then someones trying to ruin it i wanna blow their house up :D

I just wish the people that were disliking my videos would tell me why they were disliking, so I could improve.

This.

But while I find like/dislike system better than star rating, I feel that the whole dislike feature tends to be misused so much that it would be a better only to have likes. I know this system can also be gamed easily, but dislikes are generally given out because of disagreement on the subject, rather than what's actually being presented.

Notice how some very controversial videos still rank high on search in SEOs? Yeah, that. Dislikes are pretty much almost the same as likes in terms of Youtube's algorithm and stuff.
In fact the only thing dislikes do to harm your video's SEO is the fact that people who dislike and tend to immediately leave which leads to low audience retention and watch time, which DOES end up affecting you.

If this happened I'll appreciate them more. But it's so damn rare. :(

I thought that could be a good addition to YouTube a while back, they could have it where if you do hit dislike you need to leave a comment which goes to the uploader or displays publicly. It should be a kind of feedback system IMO.
Make this happen Youtube. Of course knowing immature trolls they'll probably just put stuff like "LOL YOU SUCK" as "feedback".

Dislikes actually really help me to identify which of my videos has severe flaws. One or two dislikes of course mean nothing as heaters are everywhere but if they add up over time and not by a hater peak they tell me that something was wring with my content.

I think its just a simple case of everyone is entitled to their opinion and have the right to say if they don't like something, it's something people shouldn't take to heart

Dislikes are sometime a good way to indicate what your viewers want to see. However, even if the video is perfect, there are always some 'haters' that dislike because they are jealous. Also, dislikes are positive in the YouTube Search Engine Ranking System: the more activity around your channel, the higher you appear in the search result. This is not the case of course if more than 50% disliked.

But just having a dislike doesn't give any indication about what's the problem. People easily become blind to their own flaws, so just somebody saying "it's not good" doesn't really help you to pinpoint the actual issue.

And honestly more often that not I think YT dislikes are just the result of the viewer simply not agreeing with you - nothing technical.

For me it's better than having no indication at all. Having e.g. a like only system does not tell you whether you call to action is just too weak or if your content is bad.

But it helps me to start a thinking process and enables me to ask for dedicated reviews without spamming the communities with all my videos.

If my content is controversy I can of course expect dislikes but in that case I know how to judge them.

even though I don't like having dislikes, I do get more likes

I do agree with that people should put why they disliked the video (nothing too hateful though)
