I've Got It
As a new YouTuber (not even a YouTuber, I don't post fluently due to school) I post some videos at different times. People recognize them from here, from other communities or even from searching from the search bar at the top.

I've had a numerous amount of people do this on just my channel trailer and it's seriously annoying me. They advertise their channel in the comment section. Some say it's a nice video, but it's in the "likely spam" box, which I believe they do that to a lot of channels. Then ask if the OP wants to check out their channel.

It's a nice way to make friends and meet people, but it's a hell of a bad way to advertise your channel.

Anyway, as I explained what I'm talking about, now read the title Or here if you're too lazy: What do you do?

Myself, I report them for spam and block/ban them from my channel. I think it's a worse punishment, but if they appear in my likely spam box, they're doing it to others as well. Why not get rid of them if they're going to do the same thing over and over?
 
I leave them in the spam section and ignore it. If the post somehow gets through and ends up in the comments section I delete it and block them from commenting on my channel as I don't want them to be repeat offenders.
 
I pretty much ignore them. If they're in Spam, I'll remove the comments, but if they get through and they're not ridiculous (they don't specifically point to a URL or anything), I pretty much let them be. Very few people are going to follow some spammer to their channel.
 
I ignore them. It doesn't hurt me. Even if people gain off it it doesn't hurt me. Also I'm pretty sure any type of engagement (like,dislike,comment) on your channel helps with seo so there's a good chance they're helping you.

nah man,that s the wrong attitude,it s still free publicity... let them comment , if they wanna spam let them spam..it s still a better alternative than having no activity at all,that s what kills a yt channel..

It is the right attitude. You have to moderate your comments, you've made a lot of work and someone tries to take over what you have, your publicity or your viewbase. I'm not going to let that happen. It's better than no activity, I agree. But it's annoying.

well your channel,your policy.. just different songs for different folks..
 
Its normal to get those. Some comments that go in my spam tab automatically i notice arent really self-promotional and even if thats the case that they've done it to alot of ppl i still accept those for the sake of having more comments on the video so it can get better ranking. But the ones that are like check my channel i just ignore and let them rot in my spam tab
