What can you get away with?

Very handy to know. Does a song in a video have to be certain length, for instance, i've heard that a song can be used anywhere as long as its no longer than 15 seconds of the track. Is that true or just a myth?

Myth, however the shorter they are the less likely it is to be deemed worthy of copyright.

I really don't remember where i heard this, but stands to reason if you use a track for 5 secs, then its not really worth going down the copyright route haha

Not true, however Youtube has a hard time picking it up if it's below 30 seconds. It's against the rules even if it's 1 second.
Oh! Thank you for clearing that up then. I'll just stick to creating my own music from now on then, rather not be sued anytime soon haha...or ever.

I read an article somewhere stating that 30 seconds of any copyrighted music may be used without any problems and so far I've been sticking to that and I haven't gotten a single strike. You can use as much of that 30 seconds as you want, such as looping it, but you only have 30 seconds.
Sure, it's fine if I take the hub-caps off of your car as long as it's only the hub-caps and not anything else!

Stealing is stealing, whether it's detected or not is something entirely different...

I didn't say I was trying to steal at all, I merely said I read an article saying that it was acceptable. It was in relation to artists creating remixes with songs they own no rights to. How is that legal, but my video mixes aren't?
