What Camera would you recommend for under $1,000?

I'm basically looking for something that shoots high quality at least 1080p, has auto focus (not manual auto focus, but real auto focus) and doesn't do any weird crap like shutting itself down after 4 GB or 30 minutes of filming(if you use a canon eos, you know what i mean).

I'm basically really having trouble finding something that works well for me. Thanks for your help.

I only have a GoPro, but I think one of the rebels from canon would work

What sort of thing will you be doing with it? Walking around? Sitting still?
