What camera should I buy?

I wont suggest a DSLR as you stated you are after a carry-around-with-me camera - and a DSLR is way too big for that.

Instead I'll recommend the Canon PowerShot S95 - its what a lot of professional photographers use as a secondary backup camera. It has a rotating lens ring to adjust zoom or focus and other settings.
The best part is that it has a larger sensor then most other cameras in the same market, meaning its excellent in low light as well.

Hey guys - this thread is pretty much closed for now because I bought a camera today. I picked up the Canon Vixia HF R300 (retails for $349) and has decent reviews online.

I managed to find a floor model (never used, though - just on display) for $170 bundled with a carrying bag, HDMI cable and memory card. So pretty good deal overall. I know it's not top of the line or whatever but I'm pretty happy with it and it'll serve my purposes.

Thought I'd share the update![DOUBLEPOST=1380594248,1380512978][/DOUBLEPOST]This is what I got in case you guys were interested:
