What are your thoughts on Famebit?

I feel the same way, i hate when youtubers are trying to sell me stuff like its a 5 second commercial. I just got a brand deal with a small company, but i am not sure how i am going to "help them out". I found their product online (throwable paintballs!) and was like "this is awesome", so i contacted them and said, "hey, i really like your product and i couldn't find anything about it on youtube, would you be willing to send me a couple boxes so i could make my next video with them?" And to my surprise they said they loved my channel and sent me a big ol crate. They didn't ask for any advertisements or shoutouts or anything (she sounded like a very young entrepreneur), but i feel like since they sent me a couple hundred dollars worth of product i should at least help them out and incorporate some of their logo's in our battlefield or put something on the end of my video like where to buy the throwable paintballs. I see this as a great tool in the future for bringing in bigger brands to help fund my backyard shenanigans. I can then say, here is an example of what we can do for your brand (and show them the analytics for the paintball video)

That's really great, especially since you took the initiative to reach out and they said, "Sure! Here's a bunch of stuff!" I love it when things actually happen like that.

Just looked at the website for myself. Sure enough, the minimum subscriber quota is 5,000. There goes my option to try it out *is barely over 500*...

I am lucky and got grandfathered in (back when it was only 1000 subs required). Don't worry, you aren't missing out on much and most brands won't even look at you unless you have a lot of followers across all platforms. When you get up to 1000 (which will happen fast if you keep cranking out videos), then i would start to go off and do your own branddeals.
Using famebit, the market is flooded with creators that will work for peanuts so you won't get much for the work you put in. Also famebit takes a cut and the companies on there know the game all too well and take advantage of that. Contacting smaller companies on your own is the way to go, most companies don't know what to pay someone for this kind of service and i found that most are willing to pay a lot more. Try doing a free brand deal for someone (maybe something like, i will promote your product if you give me some free products) to start so you have something to show the bigger companies when you ask them for a deal
