What are some strategies for promoting yourself and building a fanbase?

Hello guys! I would like some people's opinions on what would be good way to get your channel out there. I'm at that point where I'm busting my butt making, or at least trying to make, quality videos and I just have problems getting people to notice my work.

I use social media like facebook, instagram, and twitter. The people that usually watch my videos are the people who I have as friends on those sites. I share my videos constantly, with moderation, and I get okay views like that, but it's hard for me to get people to actively go and seek my videos from what I am seeing. I've gotten comments like: "Why aren't these videos more popular?" and I just can't answer that myself.

I feel in myself that I am proud of my content, but people aren't just seeing it. So again, I would like to ask you guys for some tips on how to effectively promote yourself and build a bigger fanbase. Am I being impatient or am I missing something?

Thanks!

I've tried to branch out more lately by trying to set up collaborations with other channels and making end of the month vlogs taking about stuff that happened with me throughout the entire month. I feel that it's a way for my viewers to get a better idea of who I am and stuff I'm interested in besides the videos games I'm playing.

Become known for something else and you might be able to boost your channel's subscribership that way. But then again, your following might not seem as important to you if you are known for something else. - I'm saying this because you talked a bit about being an actor and stuff, thought you might go into something like that - as your story goes on I reckon people will find your channel more and more compelling.

Keep it up. Loved the style of the vids I watched.

Well, so, a couple things: first, your channel art and branding kind of gave me the impression that you have a gaming channel, but you're a story teller, so you may want to re-think that. I do see you engaging in the comments section, so I'm curious as to whether you're also engaging on other peoples' videos (I'm guessing you are). You do have good content, although some of your videos are loooooong (like 7-10 minutes, which is a bit longer than normal).

Other than that, just remember that it's hard to get started a story teller or a vlogger. It's hard to get people to care about your life enough to keep coming back for more. So just keep being excessively friendly, find some communities to participate in, and eventually you'll get there. The content is there. This is just the beginning.

Collabs are a great idea. I'm just having problems find people similar to my channel.

Honestly, I think it's all about patience. Post videos, use social media, and accumulate viewers and subscribers. It's a waiting game, unfortunately

I agree.

Yeah, being the acting game will probably help if I get pretty far into it. My goal is to merge both acting and YouTube so I can enjoy both! And thanks!

I can see how it looks like a gaming channel haha! I had really crappy channel art before and I just put up my current picture, that I made as an inside joke, to take it's place. I will change it in the future most likely.

And yeah, my videos are long. I have a problem with cutting down workable content sometimes, I just want to tell everything! haha.

I thought you video was a little long at one point, but then it sort of clawed my attention back a little bit - maybe just need to catch when you are stuck on a particular part of the story, most probably better to not over think though.

I feel like I'm in a little bit of the same boat here, uploading a couple videos a week and getting 30 views at most. I've tried to use social media and stuff like that, but it never really results in anything new surprisingly. A lot of these suggestions are helpful though, and I'll try my best to keep to them :D

Hey, I think you're entertaining and have potential. What comes to mind when I look at your channel: Your titles aren't very "seductive". For example, if I read "Tales of Timmotay: Listen to Me!" - I don't really know what it will be about. A more expressive title could be: "Why is nobody ever listening to me?" - it's more relatable and thus I'd be more likely to click on it. This is just an example. I imagine you can come up with something even better. :)

Another idea: you have a lot of longer videos (5 mintues and longer). And some take a long time to get to the point. That's okay for people who are already subscribed to you but it might be too long for new viewers. New viewers usually want to get a quick impression, they don't have much patience. So maybe you can find a few video ideas that would be shorter with a topic that's interesting for people who don't know you yet.

Really it's about experimentation, though. So trust your analytics more than my word, experiment and repeat what is working. :)
