Webcam noise issues?

Before I say anything, mods, if I put this in this in the wrong place I'm sorry for that, I'm still new a learning everything.

Anyway, I'm have a weird issue with my webcam. the other day I was going to record some horror game with webcam so people could see the terrified look on my face as I'm playing, but I did a test recording before I started, and for some reason, when i record with the webcam turned on, it picked up this really high pitch cricket like noise in the background. I use my webcam all the time to talk to my friends and family and they all tell me they hear no odd sound when I spend time with them. there are no weird noises like that in my house ever, and my computer is not set next to other electronic devices (aside from my phone, which i keep on my desk with me.)

I use the mic that's built into my webcam and when I record without the webcam on, there is no noise, it's only when it's on. I use a Logitech HD webcam C525 and I record both webcam and mic with a program I bought off of steam called "Action!"

any ideas on how to fix it, edit the sound out, or find some kind of way around the issue? I really want to use my webcam for YT so any advise would be a great help, thanks. :)

No worries, moved it here for you :)

As for your problem, definitely seems like there's some type of interference perhaps between your webcam mic and your regular mic? Either that or you have a ghost cricket. Are you able to mute the webcam mic and only record video?

The webcam camera might actually be making noise inside so when you turn it on the mic might be picking it up since it's integrated with it but that's just one theory and since your family can't hear anything it may not be the case. My microphone makes popping noises if I keep my phone near it sometimes when watching my recordings back since it causes interference. I'd recommend buying a standalone mic since it's more professional and you can get cheap one's out there if you can't fix the issue. You can also try using OBS (Free) to test record your webcam and microphone to make sure that it's not a software issue. There is also audacity (also free) which you can record your voice on. So you can record your voice and webcam separately and sync them up when editing however in that case it would probably be better to use OBS.

I only have one mic, and that is the webcam mic. it works surprisingly good. aside from this one issue.[DOUBLEPOST=1452291100,1452290934][/DOUBLEPOST]

I wish I could get a new Mic, I probably will once I get a job. which could be soon, but I'll try your other suggestions in the mean time and I'll do a few other test recordings. :) thanks.

Oh my fault, you did mention that didn't you :) Hopefully you didn't get a defective camera. And as mentioned by Shehzad, might see if you can the same results using a different recording software.

Thanks. I'll see what I can do.
Try out Audacity, it's a free audio recording software that you could use to test your problem! Start recording like you normally would (with the webcam, in your other software) then press the red record button in audacity to start recording audio there as well. Then check if you hear the noise in audacity. I doubt this will fix your problem, but if it does you can always use the audacity track and just not record your mic audio with your other software.

The other problem would mean it's something in the webcam. Could be faulty parts or wiring which creates a sound only heard by the mic in the cam itself... Which would be unfortunate!

You might want to invest in a mic at some point anyways, but remember it's not about how good your hardware is! It's about you being entertaining and interesting and what not.

Hopefully this helps, I have quite a bit of experience with this stuff so please let me know if I can provide further clarification, knowledge, and all that stuffs, y'know?

yeah, I've been messing with Audacity and i intend on doing some more test with it to see what I can do. I hope to get a better mic someday whenever i have extra cash, what i have now is surprising good for what it is, I think... what the sound is is electricity running through the light on the webcam that the mic is picking up on, sadly i can't turn that light off it turns on when the webcam turns on. I learned that Audacity can clean up back ground noise recently so im going to try that and see if i can cut out that sound. thanks for the help though!

Ah thats unfortunate, if the webcam is relatively new you might be able to get a replacement. Either way, good luck! And keep on creating content!
