We all start somewhere. . .

That must be an eye opener when you notice you are at 100 subscribers and a few months later, you have over 50,000 subs. That is a true achievement to have this happen in a lifetime.

You post some really inspirational @CoolMoo5 for everyone thank you :) Something I heard @Symph mention once was that WeezyWaiter took around two years before he started seeing any results I believe he was at 100 subscribers after two years and look at him now. Another inspirational thing Symph also mentions is Colonel Sanders whos chicken recipe and plans were rejected 99 times before anyone would invest into it so it goes to show even with set backs and knockbacks to keep striving for your goals in life :)
Hehehehehehe I feel so listened to. :D

Not really a strange online mentality but life in general lol Pewds has come a long way since then and worked really hard. The strange thing is he isn't as popular as he used to be (this goes for other youtubers as well like Smosh, RWJ, and Jenna Marbles) and the reason comes down to the fact that there is so many other channels to choose from.

Smaller channels are having a bigger impact and people don't even realize it.

How do you mean he's not as popular? He's more popular than ever...

He has the most views by far of any individual users, and currently 5x the monthly viewers compared to number 2; Rihanna. He's tripped the number of subscribers in the last year (+20 million). And The monthly views have doubled, from 200 million to over 440 million views in August. If he made 4 million dollars in profit last year he'll probably do close to 7 million in 2014. Crazy...

I remember when he would put up a vid and get 5-7 mil views easy. Now it is more in the 2-3 mil range. I also notice negative responses in the comment section from actual fans that kind of threw me off, since I'm used to seeing that from only trolls.

Yeah true. But he is putting out more videos and people are watching his old videos. I guess what you are saying is he has less loyal viewers then ever, but more people watching his videos. But I think a lot of people just google "most subscribed youtuber" watch one or two of his videos and leave.

By I really appreciate that PewDiePie is in the top 10 because he is the only actual YouTuber in the top ten the rest are vevos and record labels.

Can't compare back then to now though. The time frame is going to be tonnes different, it took over a year just to earn 100 subs for 1 of my other channels. Now days even if you get 19 subs in a month, it could stop completely for a year or more. Perseverance is definitely a key to growing on YouTube.

I'm just getting started on YouTube and I have been struggling to figure out whether I am doing well or not. Been at it since around middle of July putting out on average a video or 2 a week and I'm at like 34 subs and my most popular video(I think sadly only due to click baiting :() is at 301 views (not the glitch actually only 301) with a couple others close to that and most average right around 200 views.

This is where PewDiePie was November in 2010, it took him months to get 19 subscribers.
Now he is gains over 19 subscribers a minute and has over 30 million subscribers.

I know not everyone likes PewDiePie. But I just wanted to give some smaller YouTubers encouragement.
You never know what the future holds, just keep on making videos and see what happens.

And looking more past data here is a pattern I noticed about famous YouTubers. . .

They start with 0 subs scribers.
They work there way up to 1000.
In the about the same time it took them 1,000 they get to 20,000
In the same time took them to get to 20,000 to 1,000,000,000 (or more)

This isn't exact, but multiple famous YouTubers followed this pattern or something very close to it. Also, I found a few YouTubers that it took them longer to get from 0 to 100 then it took them to from 100 to 100,000 so never give up.

Thank you so much for writing this! I don't typically focus on the number of subscribers, I just like to have fun making videos It took me 5 years to reach 1000 subs. Now I'm at 1300 and I have been doing it for 7 years. My channel is not entertaining so I can imagine that most won't get into it.
