Vloggers/lighting help?

Hey there vloggers, just wondering if you use soft-boxes in your videos to get even lighting on your face? At the moment it takes me about half an hour to try and get the lighting even before filming a video, sorting out lamps and things in different places, but it still doesn't look right! And from watching big vloggers on YouTube, they all seem to use soft-boxes to get even lighting, just wondering if it's worth it? It is very frustrating trying to get the lighting right atm! :)

well i have seen big vloggers like Kate (piddeless) she don't she just walks around her house and natural light comes in all the time and she uses it in her vlogs to make a joke, but when she does vlogs where she sits still she just pulls the curtains across and turns on the light, it may take a few minutes to get the right lighting but when i watch a vlog i rather looked at facial expression and what they are saying then lighting but I'm a gamer what do i know ;)

I have two umbrella lights that I use. They set up quickly and and provide AMAZING lighting compared to what I had before. You can see a huge difference. The package cam with three for just over $60 CAD.

The only thing I know about lighting is never have light from behind or you will be back lit. but I guess if you don't have a lot of money like I do them just walk around your house recording yourself and try to find the best place with natural lighting XD But investing in proper lighting is a big yes XD

A quick easy solution to get soft lighting that will look great is China Balls...
http://www.amazon.com/White-Chinese-Japanese-Lantern-Diameter/dp/B0026O87FI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1378577449&sr=8-2&keywords=china ball

they difuse the light so that you don't have a harsh shadow and you can put them over any lamp.. Remove the lamp shade and put these up.

Actuall have a back light is done on all professional studio's you do that so that you don't blend in with the back ground....

You definitly need backlighting if you do any kinda greenscreen for sure.

Thanks for the tips!! :D

I know I don't do vlogs per se, but as I am the subject in my videos, I dunno maybe it'll help. I use softboxes, I picked them up on Amazon for about £70 and they have really improved my image quality. I wanted that crisp, professional look, and using two softbox lights hasn't quite got me there yet, but it certainly improved my image quality by a huge margin. You can tell from the image in my signature that they provide even white light and it looks good! I'm really happy with my purchase.
It won't let me add a link to the ones I purchased, but if you type "video lighting" into Amazon's search, it should be the first hit.
