Viewers > Subscribers?

View to subscriber ratio. They both matter. If you have tons of views but known sticking around it is just as bad as having many subs but none of them watching. Lol. I base it on likes and comments oppose to views and subscribers.

Each person is different and each channel is different. No two situations will be the same!

You're right there :) I've always found engaging people in the comments can quickly become one more sub if you get on their level. It really depends what your aims are for your channel.

Subscribers for me.
Because really with enough promoting your videos can grow (to an extent) in views, but you can't exactly force someone to subscribe to your videos... they have to like it enough to be bothered to :P

I swear I've seen like 3-4 of these threads within the past 2 months.
My answer summarised: 1 cannot coexist without the other for a certain period of time in a person's YouTube career.

Hard to say. While someone subscribing means they enjoy the videos a great deal, doesn't mean they will continue watching until the end of time. You can have a lot of dead subs. So views are important but as long as it counts as a view if someone only watches 1 second, it doesn't mean too much either. Guess you have to look at both.

Audience Retention time.
Sorry you lost me after "Aud"
That's only 12% retention. Konisbored, you may need to make your posts more exciting.

For me I look at it all, but a really important one is audience retention, even if one of my videos gets a low amount of views but a good audience retention then I think, well that content wasn't what most of my subscribers wanted to see, but who watched it enjoyed it, so it was at least well made, also for some reason, despite good feedback from subscribers my channel seems to have come to a stand still regarding subscribers, I get maybe 5 a week now, it was at it's best over summer, so right now I don't tend to look at it that much, but it still feels great when you see a new subscriber.

Base what on? The ammount of fun I am having? Comments and interaction. I do care about views and subscribers, but they are insignificant to the viewer interaction.

I'm not sure what you mean by "what do you base it on" but I judge if a video is good or not by the amount of likes it gets, not views. Anyone can view your video by 2 seconds, but if they like it or if the audience retention time is high, that's how I know. In the situation of views vs subscribers, views are more important. You want your subscribers to be actively engaged in your channel, so if you have 5,000 subscribers but 50 views on each video, that's not good. Also another reason you don't want to do sub for sub.

Honestly? I could care less about either. I'd rather have people that are looking to interact in the comments or somewhere else. But if I had to pick one, I guess i'd say viewers. Because subscribers doesn't automatically translate in to views.
