Video's losing (ranking) power

I Love YTtalk
So what people say it's true I guess.... I do have some statements below, I do not know whether they are true or not but please discuss!

Newer video's who are pretty popular do get ranked higher so Youtube could see how the audience will react. After some time they put it back to normal and my videos seems to be ranked lower in the search terms and findability.... I see a pretty massive view count drop in my popular vids after a month and half. I see those vids are not ranked as high as I would have liked.

What do you guys think :D

I think they will drop "OLD" popular videos and replace with "NEW" ones. You know, they want to give a chance to new ones :)

I agree. I had some popular videos on my old channel which suddenly went mental for about 3 weeks, the dropped down in the search at random, despite still getting loads of views.

I've got a buddy who works for YouTube so I'd love to grill him on how it all actually works!

You got a friend who works for YOUTUBE? I mean like.. THE COMPANY?!

Seems logical... I'm still raking in the view counts, but it wasn't as satisfying as before :)

For example: A video of me "singing" Let it Go. According to YT Analytics, the traffic sources for search terms were quite general. I got hundreds of views from people looking for : let it go frozen. I thought that was very nice. I was also on page 5 or something. Now I don't get these views and I am somewhere found around page 35 when you search more specifically :D

What do you mean by popular? For YouTube, popularity isn't so much about view count anymore but watch time / audience retention. If your watch time is bad, you get ranked lower.

I understand, but I think in my specific situation it is about view count. My audience retention was terrible, is terrible and will be terrible :D

Ha ha, that's too bad.
But it would fit so nicely you know. YT suggests your video to a lot of people because it's new and has a good amount of views, but the people who check it out don't watch the whole video because they were looking for something else. Then at some point, when your video loses the "new" bonus, only the watch time counts, so it drops.
