Video went VIRAL! News stole my video - now what?

Hey everyone. I happened to have a super amazing quality video (filmed with 4k camera, good lighting etc) that was a current event on the news. I posted it on my channel and it went viral. Well viral to me meaning 3000+ views per hour and numerous embeds on news websites, radios all over the world. Top trending youtube etc.

I have 2 questions:

1. I noticed websites and news stole my video and used the youtube embed code to embed it -- is this allowed? I see most asking for permission from others.. why not me?

2. Now that 1 video went viral..what can I do to grow my channel? Is this a good head start for me? Will it keep my rankings high? Thanks in advance.

Not sure about the first one since I don't know to much about that, what I do know is that its unlikely to get multiple viral videos and once this blows over you might be where you were before the video with just more subs. Honestly just be consistent, don't let your quality slip and be patient :)

Thanks for the replies. Re: news they didn't remove my link but they did refer to me as someone I'm not which resulted in more dislikes than likes. I posted the video for reference and viewers thought I was agreeing with the whole thing - I wasn't.

Anyways. I'm not new to making videos. I've been doing so for almost a year and I have gotten much better at it. I decided to post this one on a new channel because I didn't want it to interfere with my "real" channel.

But now that the views are going high on this channel, will it continue if I keep making content?

I posted 2 videos related to that and both are averaging 70-150 views an hour. Is this going to continue for every video I make?

If they used your embed code, they don't need to ask permission - because you're still getting their views attributed to you.

it would be different if they'd downloaded your film, and then uploaded it to their channel.

Yes, Youtube permits embedding. You agreed to that when you signed up for Youtube, and as others have said, your video can't directly be monetised by others that way.

Why would they ask permission to give a direct link to your video? Your definition of stealing doesn't match reality. Embedding videos enables ad clicks and provides views. So in actual fact, you are directly benefiting from them linking to you. There's a good possibility they are the reason your video has the views in the first place.
