Video Uploading & Video Processing | When To Shutdown!

Hey all, so one thing I see a lot is people (mainly new to YouTube) saying that there videos take forever to upload and process, so they're sat there waiting for it to finish before they can shutdown do other things. So I thought I would make this post to inform those who think this way.

When you start uploading, the video is being sent to the YouTubes servers and your computer (or other device if you're using a tablet or phone) will need to be turned on and connected to the internet during this time but once the video starts processing there is no longer any data for that video going from your computer to the servers meaning you're free to close down the computer or even just close the tab and move onto other things.

So basically once you see this....

...you can close everything down and move on with your day, there is no need to wait for the processing bar to compete.

NOTE: It has been suggested to wait till the processing is at at least 1% before closing anything, personally not experienced any issue closing before 1% but for safety with your own videos it may be worth that few seconds of extra wait time.

When I upload my routine is as follows, I start the upload and enter all the relevant information (tags, description, title), I then upload the thumbnail that I've made for that video, set the ads up if I want ads on the video and then press Save Changes, now this is done and looks a bit like this:

Now its just a case of waiting for the video to finish uploading and once it is I can close down the PC or close the tab.

I hope this helps someone out, as I say, I've seen a lot of channels (not just new ones) waiting for videos to finish processing before they close the PC down or close the tab.

TTYL, Peace Out and Bye Bye....Toodles

Sometimes I close the browser within a second as the video is uploaded, so the processing takes forever, until I reupload again, and it will start processing directly. Try to re upload and don't close the browser until the processing has started at least 1%.

I've never experience any issues myself with closing the browser before 1% but just in case others do i've edited the post to reflect your experiences.

Thank you for the input.

I never knew this. I feel like such a noob! Which I am. :roflmao2:

Thanks for posting this! :)
A surprising amount of people dont know, I have a friend who's got over 100,00 subs and only recently I find out he was still waiting for the processing to finish before closing things, so its not just noobs that do it :)

I only found out about it myself when I was uploading a video and my power went out at the processing point around 45%, after going to the shops to top-up my electric meter and coming back I was surprised to see the video had finished processing so I started running tests to see when closing the tab it didn't matter anymore.
