Video Tagging - Quotation Marks

Few things I want to check. I've just been made aware that putting "quotation marks" around some tags can lead to greater discoverability.

Is this true or outdated?

When I do this my tag ends up looking this /abc def/ rather than just abc def

Speech marks aren't necessary for youtube any more I don't think. Terms are separated by commas.

I'm sure this has been answered many a time and a quick search of tag quotation marks in that there search box to the top right of the page will answer your question for you.

But just in case now quotation is effectively done for you, tags a separated by the commas when you put them in so putting: , abc def, is exactly the same as "abc def" used to be, not certain but due to the way tags work now if you try to use quotation marks you might end up physically indexing the quotation marks too

Also yes exact matches in search terms can lead to greater discover-ability even though watch time out weighs any other small factor like this, so if someone searches abc def, then the tag , abc def, will perform slightly better than the tag , abc, def,

Because you're not meant to use them any more. You're hounding your discoverability by using them these days. Stick with commas

What I do know is if you put terms consisting of multiple words in your default videos tags settings, they get surrounded by quotation marks on that screen. But that's just to show that the words belong together. (for example, it'll say this: game gaming "live commentary" playthrough "let's play"). So in your video tags, it'll look like this: game, gaming, live commentary, playthrough, let's play.

I would stick to the commas like Frankie said.
Just an observation, Looking at viral and/or top chart videos, I noticed in most cases they have very minimal tags. Maybe just 3 or 4 tags separated by commas. Very rarely have I seen top placement videos that use "search terms".

My suggestion is use key words separated by commas.

For me, I am able to type whatever I want the tag to be, hit enter, and it boxes whatever I typed in to make it all as one. For example, I want the phrase "happy day" to be used together rather than separately. I type "happy day" (WITHOUT quotation marks) and hit enter. No need to use commas or quotation marks.

I liked that system much better, nobody knew how to do tags because they were all so stupid.. now you have to push enter to submit a tag and can't copy and paste them!
