Video Game Copyright? Does It Exist?

While it's true that it is technically illegal for gaming channels (myself included) to post videos featuring footage from a game, I feel that the rules regarding these videos have changed over the past few years. At one point, I'm sure that any kind of gaming video would have been ripped off of YT faster than a video containing licensed music, yet recently, there has been a huge rise in the overall interest in gaming and in the use of the internet. Gaming companies have noticed this and have noticed that television almost seems to be a dying breed of entertainment. People don't watch as much as the used to and half the time when they do they DVR their show or movie and skip all of the commercials. Thus, advertising money down the toilet. Meanwhile, YouTube is bursting at the seams with people making videos of their favorite games, reviewing new releases, and talking about future ones. To the companies, this is basically free advertising. You can bet that if TotalBiscuit, HuskyStarcraft, Tobuscus, or any of the other big names out there play a game and love it then at least some of their viewers will go out and buy it. Some companies have even started working alongside these YouTubers too. Blizzard, Husky, and Day[9] are constantly working with each other, especially with MLG becoming something of a phenomenon. Even Tobuscus and Ubisoft do stuff. One of the reasons he got into E3 was because of his literal trailers. GameStop even made one of them into a commercial. In the end, it all comes down to the simple fact of money. If the hundreds of gaming channels out there help with their sales, then no problem. We get to keep making our videos and they get free publicity. It's a win win.

I assume you mean gaming footage, right? Do you put ads on it? If yes, then pull the ads off. If no, you're totally fine. Either way though, you don't need to delete any videos.[DOUBLEPOST=1343800554][/DOUBLEPOST]
Once again, you need to have the expressed permission of the copyright holder. For example, if you did that of one of my videos, you'd have to get my permission. That's obviously much easier to do with one person than with a massive corporate conglomerate though.
Hmm.. this may seem like a dumb question... but if I post something on YouTube... and if it's completely my own work, does it automatically become "copyrighted"? Can no one else duplicate it? I don't even know if this question makes sense...

But case and point... one of David So's videos on YouTube is about a viral video and he incorporates it into his video. I doubt he got permission from the uploader considering he's making mad fun of them...[DOUBLEPOST=1343801196][/DOUBLEPOST]
