I Love YTtalk
Can I take a video I already uploaded and take a segment of it and make that as a new video?

Also if I edit something out of my video and save it can I revert back later if I don't like it?

I want to see if Editing about 20 seconds from one video will help with audience retention or not.
 
From what I can remember, YouTube's video editor does allow you to edit out certain sections and create new videos from those sections. You can either directly edit a specific video, or you can utilize the videos you already have. We've used it a few times in the past to remove some more 'down beat' sections of our vlogs. Never made a new video though from our existing footage.
 
I know YouTube's editor has improved over the years, but I would definitely keep raw footage and use that to recreate/revert any videos I don't like or want to alter. I think it would be fairly clunky to try to re-edit within the platform.
 
Also if I remember correctly, I used it once and it took a few hours for the changes to apply each time.
 
Yea, using YouTube's editor might not be the best route.

Honestly, the best strategy is to look at your video analytics and see when people stop watching your videos. Examine what happens in your videos at that point, and see what you can do to prevent that for future videos.
 
Actually I just discovered I can revert back to the original video if I edit it. So I can take out the long intro and see if that helps and it doesn't. I can revert back.
 
I have used the editor before, and to be honest I don't even like it. The changes take way too long, and I would also rather control my quality output offline instead of editing a compressed file.
