Viacom and copyrighted clips

Hey!
I recently used clips from Legend of Korra and it was recognized as copyrighted to viacom so I just accepted it so that the video wouldn't be blocked. I didn't use any audio from the series, but I don't think tv shows are under free use lol.
I'm just wondering how do people make reviews for movies such as "Honest Trailers" "Everything Wrong With 'x' in 'x' minutes or less" and still make money off those videos?

sometimes they flip the video, change the size, etc. But honestly youtube is a weird mystery

Yeah the video just got completely blocked now. I'm going to go through the video and flip the raw clips since copyright was detected on the specific clip I did not edit.
