Using Twitch to grow your Fanbase?

I was talking to a friend recently about my youtube channel, and they suggested I try doing Twitch streams as well. I was a little confused, because I figured I wouldn't get anyone watching if I didn't already have a fanbase. They told me that if I just streamed something that was popular, or something that looked to people like it would be entertaining, I might get a few randoms passing through. They said if the randoms started enjoying, I may slowly develop a fanbase, which could trickle down to the youtube channel.

Has anyone tried this, using Twitch streaming to get more youtube views/subscribers? If so, how successful has it been? Would you suggest it as a legit strategy to getting more viewership?
 
I think using Twitch is a good way to get more people to view your channel. Streaming would also be a way to get people to stay tuned to your channel as well, if they enjoy your streams. I have a few friends who stream and it seems to be working for them. They enjoy doing it, their audience enjoys it because it allows them to interact with their entertainer, and it provides a stable schedule for video uploads and streaming. Being a streamer and youtuber definitely has its perks, people can interact with you while your LIVE and go watch your pre-done videos for when your stream is over so they constantly have some content to watch. Personally I think twitch and streaming in general on any other stream site is a great way to get people to see your content.

i am here to tell you the bad news, NO! first understand that playing popular games will not get you views/sub for your youtube channel only on twitch it will. 2th there are many people playing the same game and whats even bad about it is that many of them use contest to win people over. 3th twitch does not support you, everything you had on youtube wont help you not even all that fancy equipment. lastly its no better than youtube twitch and youtube are now archvirtals you wont be getting anything from youtube if you switch to twitch and twitch wont help new people.

I'm not SWITCHING to Twitch, I'm talking about doing regular Twitch streams along with still making Youtube videos. Maybe doing a Twitch stream on Saturdays, then a few youtube videos during the week like I already do.
 
I've personally done this and during the 3 months I did stream I managed to double my subscribers.

I eventually stopped streaming due to college, but if you manage to get lucky enough to have a decent amount of viewers this may work for you.
 
Two guys I know who are big on Twitch only started a little over a year ago (Castro & Nick28T) & have both found massive success on Twitch which has simply transferred over to their YouTube channels too! Definitely massive growth potential on Twitch but it's difficult at the beginning just as it probably was with YouTube (for me anyway) Plus, live streaming looks extremely fun! I'm hoping to do a bit of it on the side too in the near future :)
 
Twitch is a great way to get out there. Any publicity is good publicity. Especially if it's on Twitch.

It would be wise to try to post your YT somewhere on your twitch page and/or tell people who you are and your YT channel if they like what they see.
