Using competitor name as tag

WOW! I did NOT expect tags to have such an impact on the video. I have to learn more about this.
Tags make up a huge portion of SEO that's one of the ways youtube catches your video when people are searching for simialr topic :)[DOUBLEPOST=1461813748,1461813707][/DOUBLEPOST]
I made a a collaboration video with another channel some time ago. Just recently I put their channel name into the tag section and this is the result for that video:
View attachment 35281
It's forbidden to do this with unrelated channel names but as this is a collaboration video I guess the tag is still relevant.
Note that not only the traffic from suggested videos did pick up but also the one from cards and annotations. I have no idea why the latter one is the case.
Their video has 700k+ views by the way. I somehow got lucky as their next most watched video has "only" 30k+ views.
So if I learned something from this then it is that linking each other in annotations and cards isn't necessarily sufficient to get into the recommendation section but that tags can be the break through.
When you click on youtube search term, is one of the most used search terms the name of the channel you collaborated with?

Well I read some posts about this on reddit and everyone said it is a clearly violation of Youtube TOS because you are using "misleading datas that have nothing to do with your videos" but in my opinion it's more than this. I mean someone could use other big YT as tags for increasing the range of your visibility, but there is also to consider that first there are still all the videos belonging to that Yt and then there is your video. Also you can also use those tags but if your videos is not entertaining it will be completely useless and yt will kick it in the back.
For what concerns the violation I think that using that kind of tags isn't misleading because they are in your same category of videos so there isn't anything wrong with that. Personally I don't use them (and I though a lot about using this tactic) but I would feel "wrong" using someone else for growing.
Of course with collabs everything is different, you can openly use the collaborator as tag because it's in the video nature itself!

If you didn't actually collaborate with that person and your video isn't about that person, then I agree that using their channel name in the tags is misleading and it's possible for it to backfire. It just goes to show the value of choosing your subjects and your collaborators carefully.

View numbers are decreasing again.

It seems as if this correlates well with a spike on the collaboration video though.

So it may well not have been the change in tags but a coincident with the new viewers being gated to the collaboration video. I am glad I took the opportunity to collaborate with them when they didn't already have 100 subscribers. Take your chance when you spot quality that is underrated!
